Only some of the insects that are potential vectors of parasites are actually carriers of the parasites and are capable of transmitting them to a new host. We study molecular bases of the vector competence by analysing the interactions between tsetse flies, trypanosomoses and symbiotic bacteria of tsetse flies and triatomes at the molecular level, in order to be able to block the transmission cycle of African and American trypanosomes
