In the footsteps of Ryckman and his odyssey in search of triatomines in Baja California.

Let's go for the Research Training School "Field Techniques for the collection of triatomines" from May 1st to 15th.

This training is provided by Etienne Waleckx and Antoine Amblard-Rambert from Intertryp, for several researchers and students from the Universidad de Baja California de Mexicali (Dra. Paulina Haro team). Participants will learn different techniques for trapping forest triatomine bugs (bait traps, light traps) and practice them at different sites across the Baja California Peninsula, hoping to find the triatomine lurking there. They will reproduce in a way the exploratory odyssey of Ryckman in 1967, who reported the first discoveries of triatomines in the peninsula. Since then, and almost half a century later, very little has been done…. We therefore wish the trainers and participants good luck in this epic, and hope that they will bring back many specimens of Dipetalogaster maxima, the largest species of triatomine ever reported, with adults measuring up to 6 cm!!
