COMBAT, a new project to fight animal trypanosomosis

CIRAD, as coordinator of a consortium of 21 partners, has just launched a new project to combat animal trypanosomosis, a parasitic disease transmitted by biting flies, including the infamous tsetse. A scourge for African livestock farmers, the disease is also at risk of being introduced into Europe due to globalisation and environmental changes.

The 4-year COMBAT project is funded with €5.9 million from the European Union's H2020 programme. Its implementation and impact will be ensured by a strong presence of African partners in 13 endemic countries, and the direct engagement of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
